About the tournament
The International 8 tournament promises to be an exciting event where teams will compete for a prize pool of $25 532 177. The venue is Vancouver.
Participants:
- Eight teams qualify through Dota Pro Circuit;
- Ten teams qualify through Regional Qualifiers;
Group Stage - 15.08.2018 - 18.08.2018:
- Two groups of nine teams each;
- Single round-robin;
- All series are Bo2;
- Top four teams in each group advance to the Upper Bracket of the Main Event;
- 5th-8th place teams advance to the Lower Bracket of the Main Event;
- Remaining teams in each group are eliminated.
Tiebreaker rules:
If the tie is over a position of significance;
- Two teams - a Bo3 will be played;
- Three teams or more - a Bo1 round-robin will be played;
- If the tiebreaker does not resolve following the first round of the round robin:
- Three teams - the tiebreaker will be replayed;
- Four teams or more - the matrix listed below will be used to resolve the tie, adding the information from the tiebreaker matches to those gathered during the group stage.
For ties that are not over positions of significance (in order of importance):
- Head-to-head record between the tied participants taking only game score into account;
- Record vs the first team below the tied teams, continuing to each subsequent team below the tied teams til the tie is resolved;
- Coin toss
Playoffs - 20.08.2018 - {date_utc:25.08.2018 18:00):
- Sixteen teams play in a double-elimination bracket;
- Eight teams begin in the Upper Bracket, eight in the Lower Bracket;
- For Upper Bracket Round 1, the 1st place in each group of Group Stage picks their opponent from either the 3rd or 4th place finish in the opposite group;
- For Lower Bracket Round 1, the 5th place in each group of Group Stage picks their opponent from either the 7th or 8th place finish in the opposite group;
- Lower Bracket Round 1 are Bo1, Grand Final is Bo5, all other series are Bo3.
