Evil Geniuses is an American esports organization founded in 1999 by Alexander Garfield Garfield. Throughout its history, the club has competed in numerous esports titles.

The organization's Dota 2 division was established in 2011. Its inaugural roster featured Clinton Fear Loomis, Rasmus MiSeRy Filipsen, Jimmy DeMoN Ho, Amel PlaymatE Barudzija, and Per Anders Pajkatt Olsson Lille.

Over the years, Evil Geniuses won The International 2015 and earned more than $22,000,000 in Dota 2 prize money, making the organization one of the most successful in the game's history.

2011-2013

The team's early years were led by Fear. Evil Geniuses consistently competed at international events and was widely regarded as North America's strongest team, although major championship victories remained out of reach.

2014-2015

At the beginning of 2014, the organization assembled a new lineup featuring Artour Arteezy Babaev, Ludwig zai Wåhlberg, Peter ppd Dager, Saahil UNiVeRsE Arora, and Mason mason Venne. The latter replaced Fear, who moved into the coaching role.

This roster finished third at The International 2014. Shortly after the event, mason left the team, while Fear returned as a player. The squad later won StarLadder StarSeries Season 10 and DreamLeague Season 2.

In January 2015, Arteezy and zai joined Team Secret, prompting Evil Geniuses to sign young Pakistani prodigy Syed SumaiL Hassan and Kurtis Aui_2000 Ling. At the time, few expected the roster to become successful.

However, by spring 2015 the team had won the Dota 2 Asia Championships 2015, with SumaiL, who was still only 15 years old, emerging as the tournament's biggest star.

The club reached the pinnacle of its history at The International 2015, defeating CDEC Gaming 3:1 in the grand final to become world champions. Evil Geniuses remains the only North American organization to have won The International.

The victory earned the team more than $6,600,000 in prize money, while SumaiL became the youngest TI champion in history at the time.

2016-2017

Shortly after winning TI, Aui_2000 departed and was replaced by the returning Artour Babaev. zai also rejoined the lineup later. Despite frequent roster changes, Evil Geniuses remained one of the world's strongest teams.

Shortly before The International 2016, Arteezy once again transferred to Team Secret, something fans jokingly began calling his "tradition." He would return to EG multiple times, and his repeated moves between Evil Geniuses and Team Secret became a running joke within the community.

By TI7, Andreas Cr1t- Nielsen had joined the team, replacing ppd, who retired from professional play to become the organization's CEO.

With Nielsen, Evil Geniuses finished third at The International 2016, won The Manila Masters the following year, and placed second at EPICENTER 2017. During this period, the team consistently entered major tournaments as one of the favorites.

However, a disappointing performance at the next The International led to another round of roster changes.

2018-2019

After the departures of Fear, UNiVeRsE, and MiSeRy, only Arteezy and SumaiL remained. Gustav s4 Magnusson and Tal Fly Aizik arrived from OG, while former EG player BuLba became the team's new coach.

Despite boasting a star-studded lineup, Evil Geniuses failed to win a second The International. At both TI8 and TI9, the team came close to reaching the grand final but ultimately fell just short.

Following the conclusion of the 2019 season, SumaiL and s4 left the organization, bringing one of the club's most successful eras to an end.

2020-2021

The new roster was built around Arteezy, Abed Abed Yusop, and Cr1t-. At various points, the lineup also featured Roman RAMZES666 Kushnarev, Daryl iceiceice Koh Pei Xiang, Egor Nightfall Grigorenko, and two-time TI champion Jesse JerAx Vainikka.

During this period, Evil Geniuses once again became North America's strongest team, regularly winning regional DPC leagues and finishing second at WePlay AniMajor 2021.

However, the team placed only 9th–12th at The International 2021, leading to yet another rebuilding process.

2022-2023

In 2022, the organization unexpectedly moved away from its North American roster and signed a South American lineup consisting of Christian Pakazs Savina, Jean Pierre Chris Luck Gonzales, Adrián Wisper Céspedes Dobles, José Pandaboo Hernández, and Farith Matthew Puentes.

Despite initial skepticism from the community, the new roster quickly became one of the strongest teams in South America and consistently qualified for the biggest international tournaments.

However, Evil Geniuses failed to reach the playoffs at The International 2023. Following the season, the organization announced its departure from Dota 2 and disbanded the roster. The decision was likely driven by underwhelming competitive results and financial difficulties.
