Bio
Ace is a Danish professional player in Dota 2, with multiple appearances at majors and The International and championships in tier-1 tournaments. His brother, Link, is also a esports player, known by his pseudonym. Marcus became famous after playing for Cloud9 and Team Secret.
Ace started his career in 2012 as a player for Gamer University, along with his brother and Cr1t-. In this team, he earned his first $700 by taking first place at StarLadder ProSeries Season 3. Until 2015, his best result was the 7-11th place at DreamLeague Season 1, which earned Meet Your Makers $8,000.
One of the important moments in Ace's life happened when he joined Danish Bears: it was in this team that he began to realize his potential and became a regular player rather than a substitute. Along with his fellow countrymen, Marcus won at Rumble Town, took second place in the Solid Dota2 Challenge and the open qualifiers for The International 2016. After that, the boys received sponsorship from Imperial and for a while became leaders in the tier-2 scene in Europe: they won WESG 2016 Europe & CIS Finals, Elements Cup 2, and Royal Arena #1.
At the beginning of 2017, this team signed a contract with Cloud9. Under the banner of Cloud9, Ace took second place in WESG 2016, winning $400,000. This was the start of Marcus's career at the tier-1 level. After leaving Cloud9, he became a new player for Team Secret, replacing MP in the carry roles. This team gave him the opportunity to realize all his ambitions as a top player, and he led his team to second place at ESL One Hamburg 2017, victory at DreamLeague Season 8 and Season 9, fourth place at China Dota2 Supermajor, and other achievements. However, the fifth-sixth place at The International 2018 was too low for Puppey and his ambitions, so after the tournament, Ace left the team.
His new "family" became Ninjas in Pyjamas, and although this team was a bit weaker than the previous one, Marcus became the champion of OGA Dota PIT Minor 2019 and StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season. After leaving Ninjas in Pyjamas, Ace joined several stack teams and eventually ended up with 5men, with whom he played for several months. He then switched several stack teams and moved to Gaimin Gladiators, where he continues his professional career in Dota 2.
As a member of Gaimin Gladiators, Markus won Lima Major 2023, Berlin Major 2023 Bali Major 2023 19th and 20th Dreamleague seasons, as well as 7th-8th place at The International.
Gaimin Gladiators started their journey to TI 12 with a lower playoff bracket. Gradually advancing through the tournament grid, GG reached the final of the lower bracket, where they faced LGD Gaming and defeated the Chinese team 2-0. In the grand finals, the team faced Team Spirit, but lost to the TI 10 champions with a score of 3:0, taking 2nd place in the tournament. The year 2023 for the Ace ended with participation in ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023, where GG got there by direct invitational. At the end of the tournament, the team took 2nd place, losing to Azure Ray in the grand finals of the tournament with a score of 3:2.
The start of the 2024 season was not so successful for the Gladiators. First fifth place at Betboom Dacha Dubai 2024, DreamLeague Season 22 and Elite League 2024, and then 12th at ESl One Birmingham 2024 and 7th at PGL Wallachia Season 1. However, the team managed to place 2nd at DreamLeague Season 23 and the 1win Series Summer. And at the Riyadh Masters 2024, Ace with Gladiators picked up his first win in nine months for $1,500,000. In September of the same year, the team went to The International 2024, where they had previously received a direct invitation. The guys got to the grand finals, where they met Team Liquid, but lost the meeting with a score of 3-0, taking an honorable second place at the tournament.
In October, the team competed at BetBoom Dacha Belgrade 2024 and DreamLeague Season 24, but was one of the first to be eliminated from both tournaments. The team later failed to qualify for ESL One Bangkok 2024 and finished 3rd at the 1win Series Dota 2 Fall. After that, GG competed at BLAST SLAM I, finishing in the top 6, and in February 2025, the team placed 9th at the FISSURE PLAYGROUND and was a finalist for BLAST SLAM II. At the DreamLeague Season 25 roster finished in 12th place. In March, the team competed at PGL Wallachia: Season 3, where they finished in 7th-8th place.

On May 6, the team participated in BLAST SLAM III, finishing their run in the semifinals and placing 3rd–4th. At DreamLeague Season 26, GG finished in 5th place. Also in the summer, the team took 2nd place at PGL Wallachia Season 5.
In early July, the team participated in FISSURE Universe: Episode 5, where they performed poorly and failed to reach the playoff stage.
At the Riyadh Masters 2025 tournament, Gaimin Gladiators reached the playoff stage but lost their first match and exited the competition, finishing in 7th–8th place.
On August 2, 2025, Gaimin Gladiators were eliminated from Clavision DOTA2 Masters 2025: Snow-Ruyi. The team finished in 5th place and earned $43,750.
In August, the organization announced its withdrawal from The International 2025 due to internal conflict within the roster.
On October 9, 2025, offlaner Markus Ace Holgard officially became part of Team Liquid. At the end of October, Liquid participated in FISSURE PLAYGROUND 2, where they finished in 4th place after losing in the semifinal of the Playoff stage. At BLAST SLAM IV, the team finished in 8th place, and at PGL Wallachia Season 6, they made it into the top 3. At DreamLeague Season 27, Liquid finished their performance in the group stage with a score of 3-3.
At the beginning of February 2026, the team competed at BLAST SLAM VI, where they became champions by defeating Natus Vincere in the grand final. At the following DreamLeague Season 28, Liquid took 3rd place, and at PGL Wallachia Season 7 they reached the finals but lost to Team Yandex.
