OG Esports eliminated from BLAST Slam V

After a one-week break, the Playoff stage of BLAST SLAM V began, and in the first round OG faced Team Yandex. There was no room for error, as the loser would leave the tournament. As a result, OG Esports lost the series 1:2 and finish their run in 5–6th place. Team Yandex advance further and will face a tough matchup against Team Falcons tomorrow.

The first and second maps were mirrored: throughout both games, one team gradually built up an advantage until the opponent could no longer fight back, and everything was decided on the third map.

The decisive game lasted 47 minutes, and until the 35-minute mark the teams were even. However, Yandex had an easier-to-execute draft and the late game favored them. After several unsuccessful fights from OG, the gold lead of the opponent exceeded 20,000. The match ended when Yandex secured Roshan and, having built up a 50,000 gold advantage, went to finish the game. Under such pressure, the European team could not hold on.

In the post-match interview, Team Yandex carry Alimzhan Watson Islambekov shared his thoughts about the series:

Losing the first map is normal for us, even though we could have won it. We talked, relaxed, discussed the heroes and managed to win. Also, the arrival of Saksa helped us, and we started playing better as a team. After all, he is a The International champion.

A month ago, the OG organization signed the Southeast Asian roster Team Aureus, and this tournament became the second one for the new lineup. At the previous championship, PGL Wallachia Season 6, the team finished 5–6th, reaching the quarterfinals of the lower bracket in the Playoff stage.
