Bio
Mathis Jabbz Friesel is a German professional player, coach and analyst.
Jabbz started his career in esport in 2015, playing alongside Swedish players for Lemondogs. One of the first serious achievements of the German midlaner was his performance at the ASUS Play It Cool LAN tournament in Cologne, where he and his team lost to Alliance in the semifinals.
After the unsuccessful end of the 2015/16 season, Mathis shifted to the role of support and began to assemble rosters from German players. Jabbz 's period playing for PENTA Sports in early 2017 was the most notable - Friesel was able to win Dota 2 Champions League Season 11 and several other, lesser-known European online tournaments. In 2019, together with the German national team, he took part in the World Electronic Sports Games 2018 - the result was 21-24th place.
Until the fall of 2020, Jabbz continued to play on the pro scene for various teams from Germany. However, in September, he unexpectedly changed roles and joined Team Liquid as a second coach and assistant to William Blitz Lee. Mathis was mainly engaged in analytical work, making calculations on future opponents and statistical reports.
Remarkably, he remained with the organization even in the summer of 2022, when Liquid decided to sign another coach, Jesse JerAx Vainikku. At the time, the Blitz head coach recounted that Jabbz was afraid of losing his place in the club, but they managed to competently distribute duties and continue to work with an expanded staff.
At the end of 2022, a new midlaner Michal Nisha Jankowski, was added to the roster. With the new player, the club had a great season. During the year the team became silver champions of such tournaments as Lima Major 2023, ESL One Berlin Major 2023, Bali Major 2023, Riyadh Masters 2023, in addition, the club took 5-6th place at The International 2023. After that, Team Liquid participated in ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023, where they managed to take 3rd place.
2024 Liquid started off the year with a 2nd place finish at BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024. The team also participated in Elite League 2024, where they finished in 4th place. At PGL Wallachia , the roster placed 6th, losing to G2.IG in the lower bracket of the playoffs. In May, the squad finished 9th at DreamLeague Season 23, and in the summer they finished in 7th place at a major event, losing to Gaimin Gladiators in the grand finals of Riyadh Masters 2024. However, Liquid soon managed to break the losing streak with a win at Elite League Season 2.
In September, Team Liquid finally broke the “curse of second place” and became the champion of The International 2024, defeating Gaimin Gladiators in the grand finals of the tournament.
The team was later able to qualify for ESL One Bangkok 2024 and won the 1win Series Dota 2 Fall. After that, Liquid made an appearance at BLAST SLAM I, finishing in the top 6. In December, the team competed at a tournament in Bangkok, where they placed 2nd.
In February 2025, Team Liquid took 7th place at FISSURE PLAYGROUND, BLAST SLAM II and DreamLeague Season 25. In March, the team was the champion of PGL Wallachia: Season 3. Blitz was unable to attend this tournament due to visa issues and his duties were taken over by Jabbz. At the subsequent FISSURE Universe Ep.4, the team placed 7th-8th. In April, the team competed at ESL One Raleigh 2025 but lost in the second round of the lower bracket, finishing in 5th-6th place. In the same month, Liquid became the PGL Wallachia Season 4 champion.
In May, the team participated in BLAST SLAM III, where they lost in the first round of the playoffs and were eliminated, finishing 9th–10th. At DreamLeague Season 26, the team finished in 8th place.
On June 29, 2025, Team Liquid couldn’t defeat BetBoom Team with a stand-in, and thus the team leaves PGL Wallachia Season 5 in 3rd place.
In July 2025, Team Liquid participated in the Riyadh Masters 2025. They were eliminated in the quarterfinals after losing to Team Falcons. Liquid finished in 5th place and earned $125,000 in prize money. At The International 2025, Liquid failed to defend their title as reigning world champions. The team didn't even make it to the playoffs.
At the end of October, Liquid participated in FISSURE PLAYGROUND 2, where they finished in 4th place after losing in the semifinal of the Playoff stage. At BLAST SLAM IV, the team finished in 8th place, and at PGL Wallachia Season 6, they made it into the top 3. At DreamLeague Season 27, Liquid finished their performance in the group stage with a score of 3-3.
