Nix explained how to bring back Dota 2's former player base
Streamer and former professional player Alexander Nix Levin shared his opinion on how Valve could restore Dota 2's former popularity. According to him, there's no need for radical changes — bringing back proven mechanics would be enough.
During his May 28 stream dedicated to reviewing patch 7.39, Nix focused on Dota 2 again for the first time in months. He proposed three simple steps he believes could revive the game: reset MMR, bring back the The International themed Battle Pass, and launch a new in-game event that would spark player interest.
Pro players keep playing and that’s clear. But what’s in it for the average player? Something needs to be refreshed. I’d reset the MMR, run an event like Aghanim’s Labyrinth, and bring back the Battle Pass with arcanas and cosmetics. These are the basics, you don’t even have to invent anything.
Many other former pro players and streamers have also spoken about Dota 2’s future, increasingly urging Valve to implement a seasonal ranked system. They believe a rank reset at the end of each season could help motivate players. This system is already used successfully in games like League of Legends, Apex Legends, Overwatch, and others.
Meanwhile, the community is actively discussing rumors about the possible return of the classic Compendium. Although dataminers have denied these claims, some fans still hope Valve will reconsider and bring back the old Battle Pass format.
Earlier, Cyberscore reported a new all-time record for longest game in Dota 2 history.
