PvE event, new mechanics, and a new hero: what was found in the game data after the Trove of Terror release
Following the release of the Trove of Terror treasure in Dota 2, dataminers have uncovered new details about upcoming content in the game.
Firstly, more details have emerged about the upcoming second act of the “Dark Carnival”. Icons intended for enchanting items and abilities have been found in the game files, which could be one of the event’s mechanics.

Lich may become one of the bosses or a regular enemy unit. For him, the developers have added a reworked Chain Frost, which always moves in a straight line rather than bouncing off units. The character has been placed in a new “Enemies” folder, which did not exist in the game prior to the October 7 update.
Developer tools for working on Act 2 were also found in the files: the ability to switch between the first and second parts of the event, as well as additional functions for editing locations on the event map — which were train cars in Act 1. The discovered assets resemble elements of a PvE event, but could also become part of a future minigame.
In addition, new modifier functions have been found in the game, such as an attack dead zone and event messages like “tree planted” and “health lost from damage”, which may be implemented in an upcoming patch.
The only hint at a new hero in Dota 2 comes from a phrase on the Arcana item for Tidehunter, addressed to an unreleased character: “It was a pleasure to eat you, sir”. The community speculates that the new hero might be a vampire, as suggested by the medieval castle in the background of Trove of Terror and the name of the new set style for Drow Ranger — Helsing.
As CyberScore previously reported, players listed their desired changes for Patch 7.42.
