Short and Long

Short and Long in Dota 2 are lane names based on the distance from the standard creep meeting point on the lane to their own Tier 1 tower.

Short is the lane where this distance is minimal. The name comes from the English word short. Short is often considered the safe lane, because farming here is safer — it’s easier to retreat quickly under tower protection when threatened.

Long is the lane where the distance from the creep spawn to their own Tier 1 tower is the longest. The name comes from the English word long. Long is usually considered the hard lane due to the longer distance to safety and higher risk of ganks.
