The Neustadtl Score (the Sonneborn-Berger score)
An additional indicator used to determine a team's position in the standings when points are tied. It is calculated as the sum of the points of all the teams that this team has defeated, plus half the points of the teams with which it drew.
The method was proposed by Austrian chess player and theorist Johann Berger in the late 19th century and was originally used in round-robin chess tournaments.
In ESL Pro Tour tournaments, for BO2 (best of 2) matches, a 2/1/0 point system is used instead of the traditional 1/0.5/0 — 2 points are awarded for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a loss. This simplifies the Berger coefficient calculation and makes the system more intuitive for viewers.
