Salo
Salo is a slang term used by Dota 2 players to refer to the Silence effect, which temporarily prevents a hero from using abilities. This phrasing is commonly used in Ukraine and the CIS. While silenced, a hero cannot cast either active spells or ultimates, but can still move, attack, and use items. This effect is especially dangerous for heroes who rely on their abilities, as it disables their main source of damage or control. In conversations, players often say “give salo,” meaning they want to prevent an enemy from casting spells at a key moment — such as before a teamfight or during an escape.
