Attack range
Attack range is a fixed distance from which a hero can perform regular attacks. It is constant by default and can only be increased through specific items or abilities. However, the attack type (melee or ranged) does not directly depend on this value. Even with a high range, a unit may still be considered melee based on its classification. This means melee heroes can have greater attack range than some ranged heroes.
Melee hero characteristics:
- attacks land instantly after the attack animation finishes;
- certain items (e.g., Quelling Blade) have enhanced effects;
- benefit from cleave effects.
Ranged hero characteristics:
- attacks are projectiles that have travel time;
- projectile speed depends on the hero’s attack projectile speed stat;
- attacks can be dodged (e.g., with Blink) or miss if the target is on high ground.
