Attack classes
Attack classes are different ways in which heroes and units deal damage. They determine how an attack is performed and how it interacts with armor, magic, and other defensive mechanics. In Dota 2, there are several attack types, each with unique properties and situational usefulness.
Main attack classes:
Attack type
- Melee - attacks that are delivered in direct contact with the target. Melee heroes deal damage within their attack radius, which requires closer contact with the enemy.
- Ranged - attacks that can hit targets at a distance. Heroes with ranged attacks can attack from a safe distance, but their damage may be more dependent on accuracy and distance.
Damage type
- Physical — damage that heroes and units deal with attacks. Also dealt by some abilities and objects. Physical damage is reduced by armor.
- Magical — attacks that use magical powers, whether abilities or regular attacks with magical damage. Reduced by magic resistance.
- Pure — damage that ignores defenses such as armor and magic resistance. It is not subject to any defensive mechanics, but some abilities with pure damage do not affect units that are immune to effects.
These attack classes are crucial in determining how effective a hero is against different enemies and how they interact with defensive stats like armor and magic resistance.
