The average player count in Dota 2 has dropped again
According to Steam Charts data, in April 2025 the average number of active Dota 2 players dropped by more than 2% compared to March and once again fell below the 400,000 mark.
The decline also affected peak player count, which dropped from 656,000 to 630,000 users.

The all-time record for Dota 2 was set in March 2016, when nearly 1,300,000 players were online simultaneously. Since then, player activity has gradually declined, with brief spikes only during the release of Battle Passes and events like Aghanim’s Labyrinth.
In today's update, Valve also fixed a vulnerability that allowed users to view pro players' statistics.
Earlier, Cyberscore reported rumors that Valve may bring back the Battle Pass, which is expected to boost average player numbers and increase the prize pool for The International.
