History

Cloud9 is a cybersports organization from the United States.

Cloud9 entered the Dota 2 pro scene in 2014 with the signing of the international Speed Gaming roster, which at that time included pieliedie, EternaLEnVy, Aui_2000, bOne7 and SingSing. The team took their first 2nd place at Dota 2 Champions League Season 2, losing to Natus Vincere, which brought them more than $30k. The same result they demonstrated at DreamHack Bucharest 2014 and DreamLeague Season 1, so Cloud9 earned their ticket to The International 2014. Its main achievement at the tournament was the victory over Natus Vincere, and EternaLEnVy and company were awarded the 5th-6th place and $650k.

Cloud9 started the new season with the 2nd place at the World E-sport Championships 2014, and then repeated the result at the World Cyber Arena 2014, DreamLeague Season 2 and The Summit 2. The arrival of N0tail and MiSeRy at the beginning of 2015 didn't help the team to win either: now they managed to get “silver” only at Dota Pit League Season 3 , and the team performed worse at other championships. But during the StarLadder StarSeries Season 12 qualifiers for Europe and CIS the team played the longest match in the history of the pro scene: they had to fight with ScaryFaceZ for 3 hours 20 minutes and 24 seconds - the meeting ended with Cloud9's victory.

After a failed 9-12th place at The International 2015, the club disbanded the current roster and signed a new one with 1437, brax, MSS and other Americans, but due to lack of results, except for a 13-16th place at The Frankfurt Major 2015, it also closed down.

In 2017, Cloud9 signed a contract with Danish Bears: the roster did not last even half a year and could only bring 2nd place at the World Electronic Sports Games 2016. Further attempts to cooperate with EternaLEnVy stacks were repeated , but they did not get the former achievements, and therefore in 2020 the club once again left pro-Dota.

In July 2024, Cloud9 announced their return to Dota 2 after a four-year hiatus. The new roster consisted of Alimzhan Watson Islambekov, Vladimir No[o]ne Minenko, Dmitry DM Dorokhin, Vladislav Kataomi Semenov and Dmitry Fishman Polischuk. Under the new tag, the guys performed at FISSURE Universe Ep.3, placing fifth, and also participated at The International 2024, where they placed sixth.
