"Dark Carnival": Event Chapters Overview
On June 26, the long-awaited major event titled “Dark Carnival” kicked off in Dota 2. In terms of structure, the event is very similar to “CrownFall.” Players progress through the story by winning matches with specific heroes and earning carnival tickets. You can learn more about how to complete the event in our article. In this article, we’ve described the content of the event’s chapters in detail.

Chapter 1
Chapter 1 of the “Dark Carnival” became available with the event’s release and includes two locations: “The Prison Car” and “The Smelting Car.” Players begin their journey in "The Prison Car”, where they almost immediately gain access to locations with valuable rewards: the Oracle and the Carnival Candyworks. To claim all the rewards in the first location, players must complete two mini-games: “Pick the Lock” and “Boot Breaker”.
For completing “The Prison Car” in full, you can earn:
- 2 Discount Coins (10 Coins activate a $7.99 discount in the store; the exact discount amount depends on your region and currency)
- 15 Candy Sacks (for the Carnival Candyworks)
- The Treasure of Wonders (contains 15 unique event-themed sets)
- 7 Carnival Goodies (emoticons, sprays, loading screens)
- 3 Seeing Stones (to advance in the Oracle’s reward tree)
- The Last Laugh Set for Phantom Assassin
After passing through the “Prison Car,” players will continue their adventure in the “Smelting Car.” To earn all the rewards for the second location, you must purchase the “Secret Rooms Pack” for $14.99 from the event store, which includes “Secret Room Tickets,” creep skins, and a “Dark Carnival Music Pack".

As a reminder, even before the release of the “Dark Carnival,” references to the development of an auto-chess and roguelike-style mini-game with the working title “Item Battler” were discovered in the game files. It could serve as an analogue to the “Nest of Thorns” from “CrownFall” — the event’s final major challenge.
