Ceb on laning in Dota 2: "It's all about the little things most people just don't notice"
Former OG player and two-time The International champion Sébastien Ceb Debs shared his thoughts on the importance of the early game phase in Dota 2. During a personal Twitch stream, he said that laning is often the deciding factor between solid players and those who are still aiming for a higher skill level.
From my experience, I feel that the biggest gap between top players and those who are just trying to improve in Dota is the little things they don't see, but that are happening

According to him, lane control and understanding of micro-moments are the foundation for a successful game.
Laning is all about the little things. I think if you get better at this aspect and understand how to win your lane or at least hold it properly, it becomes much easier to play overall. You'll have resources, good levels, gold, and your opponents won't be able to interfere that much
He also pointed out that losing your lane basically removes your ability to play the match at a good pace. Additionally, Sébastien emphasized that laning isn't properly taught.
You can just repeat what you see in replays and so on. But if you have a bad lane — whatever you want to do, you simply can't. Laning isn't really explained anywhere. So you guys need to figure it out yourselves and trust me
