“Another big organization is set to leave Dota 2 following Heroic", — insider

Ivan Burachenko, ex-head of esports at PARI, stated that financial difficulties will affect more than just Heroic. According to him, the future of Dota 2 as an esports discipline is under threat due to upcoming changes.

“Heroic announced that they are leaving Dota 2. The reasons are objective: Dota 2 as a discipline is not profitable under current conditions. Within a month (two at most), another major organization will leave the discipline following in their footsteps.”

He also noted that, possibly after The International 2026, several more well-known teams will suspend the activities of their Dota 2 divisions:

“Even bookmakers are already struggling to justify the Dota 2 players’ salary pools. Salaries of $15K–$20K–$25K+ for players who have competed in a Tier 1 tournament a few times per season simply don’t align with reality. This golden age is likely coming to an end.”

Former PARI Esports CEO Sergey Glamazda agrees with Burachenko’s assessment that several organizations will exit Dota 2 by the end of the year. Additionally, according to his information, tournament operator BLAST is also considering dropping the discipline as early as next year.

As a reminder, Robin Nymann, Chief Gaming Officer at Heroic, commented on the closure of the Dota 2 division at the organization, noting that Dota is a difficult game to monetize.

At the time of writing, it is unknown which specific clubs plan to leave the discipline, but one of them could be GamerLegion: the organization is experiencing financial difficulties and sometimes delays payments to players.

As CyberScore previously reported, SA Rejects registered under a new tag at 1W ESSENCE I.
