What is Roam?

Roam — is a playstyle for supports (typically position 4). The term “roamer” comes from the English word roam, meaning “to wander.” In-game, it refers to actively moving around the map without staying on a specific lane. The goal of a roamer is to create pressure across the map and help secure an early advantage for the team. In the current patch, this responsibility is shared between both supports.
Classic examples include Tusk and Earth Spirit — heroes with high mobility and strong crowd control.

As a playstyle, roaming became widely popular between 2015 and 2018. During that era, the meta allowed supports to operate without steady lane income — what mattered more was map impact. Over time, however, Valve began reducing roamers' effectiveness by increasing reliance on XP and gold and making lane presence more important. Still, this strategy can remain effective even today.
