Valve changed the rules of the Immortal Draft mode
On March 19, 2025, an update was released for Dota 2 that brought significant changes to the Immortal Draft mode in ranked matchmaking. Now, the rules apply only to matches with players whose rating exceeds 8,500 MMR, which accounts for about 0.5% of all players. Previously, the threshold was 6,500, and 1.5% of users were subject to the restrictions.
Key changes:
- Matches in this mode are no longer displayed in the public match history. Their records are available only to participants.
- Players with a rating above 8,500 must register an official username that will appear during the draft phase.
- Players cannot participate in ranked games in a group.
- The MMR gain/loss system in Immortal Draft games has been changed to better account for possible outcomes based on player draft choices.
What does this mean for players?
Players with a rating above 8,500 will only play in Immortal Draft with a public username and hidden matches. Players with a rating below 8,500 will only enter this mode when matched against high-rated players. Also, since access to the API for high-ranked matches is now restricted, it will no longer be possible to view player profiles or high-ranked players on statistical sites like Dotabuff and ProTracker.
Team Spirit analyst Mark sikle Lerman commented on the change, ironically stating that the analytics direction is dead and jokingly asking not to be fired. Recently, players Yatoro Mulyarchuk, Miposhka Naidenov, and Collapse Khalilov expressed their dissatisfaction with the current Dota 2 ranking system and voiced their desire to reset it.
Earlier, Cyberscore reported that Tundra Esports introduced a new carry player.
