Tundra’s dominant victory and a patch that broke teams: SVG and Capitalist on ESL One Birmingham 2026

After the conclusion of ESL One Birmingham 2026, Avery SVG Silverman and Austin Capitalist Walsh discussed the key moments of the tournament and the release of patch 7.41 during the event on the Not For Broadcast podcast.

In their opinion, the tournament outcome was not a surprise, as Tundra Esports looked stronger than the rest even before the playoffs began. At the same time, the analysts noted that the overall level of the scene is currently lower than in previous years, which makes the gap between teams more noticeable.

We both knew Tundra were going to win. It was the most predictable victory possible. Even during the group stage, it never felt like anyone could truly challenge them.

They are the best team right now, but I wouldn’t say they are as strong as top teams from previous years. The rest of the competition just looks weaker.

During the group stage, Tundra secured 4 wins and 3 draws, which allowed them to advance directly to the playoffs. Since the new update did not affect the team’s hero pool, adapting was much easier for them.

In the playoffs, the roster faced no difficulties, first defeating Aurora Gaming and then beating Team Yandex twice to become the tournament champions.

The main topic of discussion was patch 7.41. The casters emphasized that it is one of the most unusual updates in recent times, as the removal of facets reduced the overall power level of heroes instead of increasing it, as was the case before.

The timing of the patch release was a particular source of frustration for SVG.

Teams spend weeks preparing, building strategies and drafts, but a single update can completely change the meta and reset all progress. It always feels like a slap in the face.

As an example, they mentioned GamerLegion, who looked strong before the update but failed to adapt after its release and were eliminated from the tournament. Similar issues affected other teams, further intensifying the discussion around such decisions.

Before the patch, the team looked confident, defeating PARIVISION and Rekonix with a 2:0 score, as well as drawing with Tundra. However, after the update, roster lost its form and failed to find the right heroes, first losing to BetBoom Team and then being eliminated by PARIVISION in tiebreakers.

Despite this, GamerLegion showed solid performance at the next tournament, PREMIER SERIES, finishing in 4th place, while also going undefeated in the group stage.

The casters also noted that patches during tournaments are beneficial for Valve, as they increase viewer interest and allow for faster feedback from players and the community.

ESL One Birmingham 2026 took place from 22.03.2026 to 29.03.2026. 16 teams competed for a $1,000,000 prize pool and 35,460 EPT points. You can follow the tournament in detail in our report.
