Vega Squadron is a Russian esports organization founded in 2012 by businessman Alexey Vega Kondakov.

Initially, the club competed only in StarCraft II, but later established divisions for Counter-Strike, League of Legends, and other disciplines.

In Dota 2, the organization became one of the strongest teams in the CIS, regularly competing in major international tournaments.

2014–2015

In October 2014, Vega Squadron signed its first Dota 2 roster, which included Artem Sharfik Marzavin, Andrei The_apathy Aleshkov, Vladislav Unstop Kostyuk, Dmitry Shikeeper Belaykov, and Andrey CaptainLove Ryabchikov.

Just one month later, the organization completely revamped its roster, bringing in Alexey Solo Berezin and Andrey Mag Chipenko. The roster also included Pavel 9pasha Khvastunov, Vladimir No[o]ne Minenko, and Semyon CemaTheSlayer Krivulia.

In 2015, the team began transitioning from small online tournaments to the professional scene and appeared more and more frequently at Tier 1 tournaments, successfully advancing through qualifiers.

At the end of the season, the team qualified for ESL One New York 2015 and became the tournament champion, defeating Team Secret in the final. This victory marked the organization’s first major success.

2016–2017

In the following years, the club’s results continued to improve, and the team appeared more and more frequently at major international tournaments.

Early in the season, Vega Squadron signed Vladimir fn Lozovoy, who became a key player on the revamped roster, replacing 9pasha.

During the season, the team took second place at WePlay Dota 2 League Season 3 and also finished in the top three at ESL One Frankfurt 2016 and Captains Draft 3.0.

The team’s main goal was to qualify for The International 2016, but they failed to make the cut, which led to further roster changes.

In August, No[o]ne and Solo moved to Virtus.pro, and Bogdan Iceberg Vasilenko and Artem Fng Barshak joined the roster.

For the remainder of the year, the team continued to compete in international tournaments and qualifiers, but after the season ended, the organization began making roster changes once again.

Throughout 2017, Sergey G Bragin, Dmitry Ditya Ra Minenkov, Illya ALOHADANCE Korobkin, Bakyt Zayac Emilzhanov, and Evgeny Blizzy Ri all played for the team.

Despite the numerous roster changes, the organization was unable to find a stable starting five and never managed to recapture the success of previous years.

2018–2019

After a disappointing performance in the qualifiers for The International 2017, the team’s form began to deteriorate even further, leading to yet another round of roster changes. The organization continued to experiment with various combinations of players from the CIS region.

At various times, Vega Squadron featured Dmitry DM Dorokhin, Danil gpk~ Skutin, Dmitry Fishman Polishchuk, and other players from the region. For a brief period, the Greek player Verros Maybe Next Time Apostolos was also part of the roster.

Despite regular roster changes, the team was unable to reclaim its status as one of the region’s favorites.

The club’s most recent notable achievements were its appearances at The Bucharest Major and MDL Changsha Major. At the end of the 2019 season, the organization gradually phased out its Dota 2 division and, after all players left, decided not to assemble a new roster.
