History
Sweden is considered one of the most successful countries in the history of professional Dota 2.
It was Swedish players who were at the forefront of the development of this discipline, and local teams have repeatedly triumphed at the biggest club tournaments, including The International.
2007–2015
The team’s first national tournaments were two events in the MYM Prime Nations series, where they finished in 3rd and 4th place, respectively. At that time, the core roster consisted of SK Gaming players, with the best-known members being Joakim Akke Akterhall and Kim Drayich Larsson
Their next appearance was at the ProDotA National Cup in 2015, where the roster consisted of relatively unknown players and was eliminated in the second round of the lower bracket of the playoffs.
2017
World Electronic Sports Games 2017 was the team’s first major international tournament.
The roster included Mike miCKe Wu, Jean Gorgc Stefanowski, Aydin iNSaNiA Sarkoi, and two champions from The International 2013 — Joakim Akke Akterhall and Jonathan Loda Berg.
Despite its star-studded roster, the team finished the tournament in the top 8.
2019
Two years later, the team received an invitation to the 2019 IESF World Championship.
This time, the team also included players from Alliance, the winners of The International 2013 — Gustav s4 Magnusson and Jerry EGM Lundqvist. They were joined by Andreas Xibbe Rangemal, Rasmus Chessie Blomdin, and Charlie charlie Arat.
During the championship, the team successfully advanced to the playoffs and became the tournament champion, defeating the Thai national team in the grand final. This victory earned Sweden its first international title among national teams.
2024
For several years, the team also participated in championship qualifiers, but it wasn’t until late 2024 that it achieved a significant result at the IESF World Esports Championship 2024.
Of the championship roster, only charlie remained on the team. Steve Xcalibur Ye, who by that time was no longer competing on the Tier 1 scene, also joined the starting lineup.
At the tournament, the Swedish team reached the finals and won silver medals, becoming the world runner-up.
2026
In June 2026, the Esports Nations Cup was announced with a prize pool of $1,500,000.
Loda, who had retired from his professional career, became the head coach and was responsible for selecting the roster.
The final roster included miCKe, charlie, Xibbe, and iNSaNiA, who had previously represented the country at international tournaments. Samuel Boxi Svan was called up to the national team for a major championship for the first time, while Pablo and Gorgc served as substitutes.
The national team was primarily composed of current and former Team Liquid players, which helped Sweden rank among the top five countries by national rating and secure a direct invitation.
