Nouns Esports is a North American esports organization founded in 2022. The club was the esports arm of Nouns DAO, a decentralized Web3 project funded by the community of Nouns NFT owners.

Despite its short history, the team quickly became known in North America and competed several times at the biggest international tournaments.

The first roster was announced on May 4, 2022, following the signing of the 4 Zoomers lineup, which at the time competed in North America’s first division.

It included Nicolas Gunnar Lopez, David Moo Hull, Zakari Zfreek Freedman, Jacob Husky Fifik, and Guilherme Costabile Silva.

The coach was Andrei-Vlad Mangusu Sateanu, who had previously worked with NoPing and SG Esports.

2022

The squad played its debut season in the North American DPC league and regional events.

The year’s biggest result was a second-place finish in the North American qualifier for The International 2022. This earned the team a slot in the Last Chance Qualifier, where the final spots at the year’s flagship event were decided.

However, Nouns failed to reach the main stage of the championship, and the season ended without a The International appearance.

Almost immediately after the unsuccessful run, Gunnar, Zfreek, Costabile, and coach Mangusu became free agents.

At the end of the year, the organization began rebuilding around Gunnar, who returned. Joining him were Luke Yamsun Wang and Rodrigo Lelis Santos, while the new head coach was Filipe Astini Astini, known for his work with B8, Midas Club, and FURIA Esports.

2023

The season was the most successful in the organization’s history.

The team placed third in the first two North American DPC league tours, and in the summer K1 Héctor Rodríguez joined, replacing Yamsun.

For nearly the entire season, the roster was among North America’s strongest teams. The lineup competed at DreamLeague Season 19 and Bali Major 2023, and then won the regional qualifier for The International 2023.

At the year’s flagship event, Nouns achieved its best result ever. The roster reached the upper bracket of the playoffs and finished 5th-6th. During the tournament the team also defeated the reigning world champions from Tundra Esports in the group stage.

Despite the best result in club history, after the season the organization conducted a major rebuild and retained only Gunnar and Lelis in the lineup.

They were joined by Daniel Stormstormer Schoetzau, Tal Fly Aizik, and Yuma Yuma Langlet. The latter stayed only briefly and was soon replaced by Philipp Copy Bühler.

2024

After the strong showing at The International 2023, the team remained one of the leaders of the North American scene.

With new coach Milan MiLAN Kozomara, previously with Into The Breach, the roster qualified for Riyadh Masters 2024 and The International 2024. Notably, in both qualifiers Nouns beat Shopify Rebellion in the deciding series.

At the year’s main event, the team finished in the top-12, and afterward competed in a few more tier-1 championships. However, it could not fight for the top places.

On November 1, 2024, the organization officially announced its departure from Dota 2 and disbanded the roster. The management explained the decision with financial and commercial reasons, while noting that it does not rule out a return to the discipline in the future.
