History
Germany is one of the countries standing at the origins of European professional Dota.
German players have regularly competed in major club tournaments, and the national team has represented the country on numerous occasions at national team championships since 2007.
2007-2009
The first tournament in which the national team competed was MYM Prime Nations 1. The debut roster included Kuro KuroKy Salehi Takhasomi, who went on to win numerous awards, including the championship title at The International 2017.
Two years later, Germany competed in the 2009 European Nations Championship, finishing among the top four teams in the tournament.
2018
The team’s first major international championship was the 2017 World Electronic Sports Games.
The roster included Leon Nine Kirilin, Jamal Blazemon Sohail, Mathis Jabbz Frizel, Jan Qupe Tinnemeier, and Max Shak Giebert.
Despite a roster that included several players who would go on to become champions of The International, the team was unable to compete for a top-three finish at that time and was eliminated in the early stages of the tournament.
2026
Eight years later, when organizers from Saudi Arabia announced the Esports Nations Cup with a prize pool of $1,500,000, Germany submitted an application to participate.
Jabbz became the national team’s head coach. By that time, he had already won the premier Dota 2 tournament — The International 2024 — as a member of Team Liquid.
The following players were invited to join the national team for the tournament: Yuma Yuma Langlet, Daniel Stormstormer Schöetzau, Max qojqva Bröcker, Eric tOfu Engel, and Roman rmN Paley, who was listed as a player despite having long served as a coach and having previously worked with Team Liquid, Nigma Galaxy and others.
Philip Copy Bühler and Jonas jmvincento Vincent Mats were named as substitutes.
Due to ranking points of Yuma and tOfu, Germany took seventh place in the national rankings and received a direct invitation to the championship.
