History

Geek Fam (or Geek Slate) is a professional team from Malaysia, assembled in the fall of 2016 to compete in ESL One Genting 2017. The team did not qualify for the tournament, but kept the tag. The organization achieved success in Dota 2 not immediately: its main achievement was the 3rd place at WePlay! Bukovel Minor 2020.

The first Geek Fam lineup consisted of little-known players from the Asian region. In 2016-17, the team changed players quickly and often: SexyBamboe and Velo - "downed pilots" of their regions - played here. The roster with them tried to make it to The International 2017, but failed to qualify in Southeast Asia. The organization decides to recruit a new five players.

2018 was a year of stardom for Geek Fam: the team took three first places at local tournaments, briefly establishing hegemony in the region. It was also the year of the organization's major successes: the Malaysia Esports League and Asia Pacific Predator League 2018 are definitely the Malaysian team's most significant offline trophies.

At the beginning of 2019 the team showed unsatisfactory results, so before The International 2019 the organization decided to disband the roster. The newcomers were world famous in one way or another: regional legend Mushi, Raven, the previously established Velo and the experienced Xepher. Perhaps only NothingToSay was not known in the wider audience. It seemed that the strong five would easily pass the open qualifications, but the players failed to pass the 1/16 stage and missed the main event of the year.

Four months later, the squad was once again replaced with Karl, Kuku and Whitemon being the new recruits. The 2019/20 season was supposed to be a triumphant one for the team - they made it to ESL One Los Angeles 2020, but the tournament was moved online. Geek Fam had high hopes for the major in the US, but the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the players from realizing their ambitions. As a result, in September 2020 the organization decided to disband the Dota 2 roster due to the unclear situation with LAN tournaments and the DPC season. In 2023, the team tried their hand at qualifying for ESL One Kuala Lumpur again, but were defeated by Blacklist International.
