History

Team SMG is an organization from Asia founded in early 2017 by Singaporean pop singer JJ Lin. The club entered Dota2 before the start of DPC-2021, signing vtFadedNeah666Mushiah fu, ninjaboogie.

The team failed to qualify for Dota Pro Circuit 2021: Season 1 - Southeast Asia Lower Division and was eliminated in the group stage of the closed qualifiers. The most important achievement of the original squad was a second place finish at the Moon Studio New Year Showdown. However, MidOne and kpii replaced vtFaded and ninjaboogie in April 2021. SMG's revamped roster was able to overcome the Dota Pro Circuit 2021: Season 2 - Southeast Asia Lower Division qualifications and finished second in the final season rankings. Before qualifying for The International 2021 for Southeast Asia, Roddgeee replaced Mushi in the fifth position, but even that didn't help the team qualify for the tournament in Bucharest. As a result, Team SMG finished 7th-8th in qualifications, losing to Execration.

During the off-season, the team decided to make some changes in the roster, bringing in Moon as a mid and Raging Potato as a hardliner. These changes helped the team achieve silver at BTS Pro Series Season 8: Southeast Asia and gold at the OB.Moon Asian Arena, as well as prepare well for the 2021-2022 DPC season. At the end of the first round of DPC SEA 2021/22 Tour 1: Division I, the team finished fourth and won a slot at the DPC SEA 2021/22 Tour 1: Regional Final. At this tournament, the team reached third place and won $15,000 in prize money. Interestingly, during the Regional Finals, Team SMG's rebranding was announced: the club replaced the traditional tiger image in the logo with a more modern design.
