Tofu on switching roles: "It’s not a big deal for me. I think I can play both positions"
Former Gaimin Gladiators player Erik tOfu Engel shared his thoughts on joining Team Liquid and switching in-game roles. In an interview at BLAST Slam IV, he talked about how the adaptation process is going and how his responsibilities in the team have changed.
According to the player, the role switch wasn’t stressful for him. He noted that he feels confident playing both as position four and five, and appreciates the flexibility this brings.
I’d say pretty calmly. It’s not that important to me — I think I can play both positions, which is great
tOfu emphasized that one of the main challenges of the transition has been getting used to new communication and team dynamics. Despite the chemistry of his previous lineup, both he and his new teammates are now going through a period of adjustment.
It’s a completely new environment after playing with Ace for three to four years. Our old team also went through some changes, but Liquid’s players have been together for a long time. On one hand, they already have established habits, communication, and synergy, but on the other — now both sides have to relearn things, get used to each other, and adapt. I think that’s the real change
In addition, Erik has taken on the role of drafter. He explained that this responsibility requires not only strategic thinking but also understanding each teammate’s preferences. He highlighted the importance of honest communication between players when preparing for matches.
