“We barely saw any unusual strategies or new ideas”, — PGL Wallachia Season 8 recap on the SUNSfan and syndereN podcast
During the We Say Things podcast, Shannon SUNSfan Scotten and Troels syndereN Nielsen summarized the results of PGL Wallachia Season 8, discussing team performances, the current meta, and the overall state of the professional Dota 2 scene.
The tournament was won by BetBoom Team, who, according to the hosts, looked significantly stronger than the rest of the competition and confidently ran through the event.
syndereN: If you look at the whole tournament, they were the best. They lost only a few maps but didn’t drop a single series. That shows how consistent they were and how well they understood the current meta. Even though people didn’t really believe in them before the event.
One of the most discussed moments was the unexpected elimination of Tundra Esports, who played with a stand-in, and Team Yandex during the group stage. syndereN noted that such results are unusual, especially for consistent teams:
syndereN: Tundra just had a bad tournament, which is pretty rare for them. Usually, they are a team that maintains a high level and consistently reaches the later stages, but here they looked completely different.
SUNSfan: The most surprising thing is that two teams considered favorites both went out 0:3. You don’t often see that at this level. It suggests that either they were out of form, or the meta worked against them.
Both teams failed to win a single series, which came as a surprise to many. Earlier, Tundra Esports had won ESL One Birmingham 2026, defeating Team Yandex in the grand final, who themselves had previously won PGL Wallachia Season 7.

Special attention in the podcast was given to the current meta, which, according to the analysts, formed very quickly and barely changed throughout the tournament.
SUNSfan: The meta was defined very early in the tournament, and after that teams mostly played the same things. We barely saw any unusual strategies or new ideas. Everything came down to a limited hero pool and straightforward approaches.
syndereN: I wouldn’t say it was the worst meta, but there are heroes and strategies that make the game less interactive. Sometimes it feels like you can’t really influence the game because certain picks are too strong and unbalanced.
Hoodwink, Rubick, and Tiny were among the most frequently picked heroes, while 18 heroes remained completely unused. Full tournament statistics can be found here.
In the final part of the podcast, Scotten and Nielsen also touched on the situation surrounding MOUZ, who will compete at the upcoming 1W ESSENCE I tournament with two stand-ins. SyndereN noted that the roster featuring Tobias Tobi Buchner and Syed Sumail SumaiL Hassan looks interesting, but much will depend on team chemistry.
syndereN: On paper, the roster looks good, but everything will come down to how quickly the players build synergy. It’s still unclear whether these are temporary stand-ins or if the team is considering more serious changes.
SUNSfan: Teams often use stand-ins as a temporary solution, but sometimes it can be the first step toward full roster changes. Moreover, MidOne previously stated that he is taking a break due to fatigue.
PGL Wallachia Season 8 took place from 18.04.2026 to 26.04.2026 in Bucharest, Romania, where 16 teams competed for a $1,000,000 prize pool. You can find a detailed overview of the tournament in our report.
