OG may be forced to forfeit from the qualifiers for The International 2024

OG announced that the team may be forced to forfeit the closed qualification for The International 2024 for Western Europe if Sebastian Ceb Debs, who today already missed the match against  Entity, where he was replaced by Alexander Immersion Khmelevskoy, tomorrow will not be able to play in the match against NAVI Junior. Information about this appeared in the social networks of the organization.

Also from the statement of OG became known the reason for Ceb's absence. He missed the game, as he is expecting the birth of a child in the near future. The club noted that back in May they tried to negotiate with PGL about the possibility of making an exception in case Sebastian could not participate in certain games. According to the qualification rules, the team cannot change the roster during the qualifiers. The organizers allowed the use of standin in one match, ignoring the fact the birth may take longer, and the player will want to be with his family during this time.

The OG said it understood the need for the rule prohibiting substitutions, but objected to its application in the context of Ceb's situation.

"Ceb should not have to decide between supporting his wife, enjoying the most important moment of their lives, and competing.This is unacceptable, unprofessional, and shines a poor light on esports. Our industry is going backwards with decisions such as these"

Closed qualification for The International 2024 for Western Europe runs from June 19-23. Teams play for two slots at the tournament.

The International 2024 will take place September 4-15 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The championship will feature 16 teams. The tournament prize pool will be known later.
