“I think removing the facets wasn’t the best decision", — former OG player shares what changes he’d like to see in Dota 2

OG co-founder Johan N0tail Sundstein commented on the changes in patch 7.41 on the team’s Telegram channel. The two-time TI champion stated that updating the map’s points of interest and altering the gameplay pattern would have been a better solution than removing the facets.

“I believe we should always welcome changes! But, like other professional players, I think removing the facets wasn’t the best decision.

I’d like the game to remain just as complex and varied, and I’d also like to see a new scenario, get rid of that wisdom, Tormentor with its gigaimpact, and maybe change how the courier is used early in the game. But as for this patch… I think Nyx will be fine.”

It’s worth noting that the direction the developers are taking has also been criticized by Aydin iNSaNiA Sarkohi. He believes that items currently play too big a role in the game:

“We (Quinn and I) have always said that we prefer it when items aren’t the only criterion for victory, and Dota isn’t decided by buying artifacts. And the more we move in this direction, the less important hero picks become, and the less we need to think about choosing characters that synergize well with each other. By promoting this boring style of play for esports, we already know who will win the match because it’s obvious from the items."

A former Team Liquid player noted that such balance changes will boil down to nothing more than the gold difference between teams and will rob the game of its spectacle. Proper use of heroes and abilities will take a backseat to the number of items purchased.

As a reminder, the changes in Patch 7.41 were also evaluated by other members of the community, who shared their opinions on strong heroes and new items, as well as the removal of facets and the map update.

As CyberScore previously reported, Crystallis spoke about the impact of the new patch on MOUZ.
