After the release of patch 7.38 in Dota 2, a code issue was discovered that sometimes caused additional delays in executing commands. This problem was fixed by the developers in the update on February 21. However, if you continue to experience input lag, Valve asks you to provide the match ID and timestamps so that a more detailed analysis of the server and network logs can be performed.

It is worth noting that Dota 2 does not use client-side prediction like FPS games do. This means that even though you immediately see green arrows confirming your command, your hero will not move until the server receives the command, computes a simulation tick, and sends an update to the client. The delay between clicking and your hero moving depends on your ping to the server.

Additionally, developer Jeff Hill suggested adding the following command to the launch options:

+dota_debug_change_cursor_during_pending_order 1

After that, the cursor will appear brighter until the server confirms your command. This will help you clearly see the latency on each input without relying on unit movement, which can be affected by other gameplay mechanics. The command does not change Dota's network behavior, but it makes the latency more noticeable.
