Dota 2 lost its top spot in the rankings for total prize money awarded in a year for the first time in five years

Counter Strike 2 surpassed Dota 2 in the top eSports disciplines in terms of total prize money for 2025. According to Esports Charts, CS2 tournaments awarded $28,529,361, while Valve's MOBA championships awarded $20,250,031.

From 2021 to 2024, Dota 2 held the top spot. In 2020, when The International did not take place, Dota 2 also lost to CS, and in 2019, it was surpassed by Fortnite.

It should be noted that in the ranking of esports disciplines by the amount of prize money awarded over time, according to Esports Earnings, Dota 2 still holds the top spot by a wide margin with $377,396,784.96 awarded. Fortnite is in second place, with $202,892,108.90 awarded. CS rounds out the top three with $162,757,246.36.

As a reminder, League of Legends won the Esports Awards 2025 in the “Esports Game of the Year” category, while Team Falcons was named “The Esports Organization of the Year”.
