The Dota 2 community commented on the advertising ban on TI
Yesterday, Valve released a statement announcing that the organizers will not be running in-game advertising at The International 2024 this year.
A lot of players, including The International 2015 champion Peter ppd Dagher, Belarusian cybersportsman Vladislav Petushara Kozlovsky, and Alliance Director of Strategic Development Kelly kellymilkies Ong Xiao Wei made comments on the matter.
ppd supports Valve's decision:
"Valve has taken a pretty tough stance, but I'm all in favor of cybersports being leaner and Dota going back to its roots/enthusiast days. Now the money from the Middle East will be even more important, but that will end pretty quickly, I believe"
In Petushara' s opinion , this is a negative change:
“I think it's more of a negative as the discipline will be much less attractive to the Bucs. The only advertising options left for clubs are their own content on their own channels, since they can't even mention sponsors in their nicknames”
kellymilkies believes that a ban on advertising will hurt teams and their sponsors:
“A big blow to organizations that have been funded all year by sponsors only to have sponsors now come to them and say 'Thanks for the money, but GG, we can't feature you on TI'”
I wonder if the teams were informed beforehand or if it just happened now because it's a huge blow to business.
Base flags and banners in Dota 2 are like banners in stadiums in sports or stickers on cars in F1. They were key selling points/indicators to sponsors, though not the only ones. The more people watching your games, the higher the value. I wonder if this will continue after TI”
The International 2024 will take place from September 4-15 in the Danish capital, Copenhagen. 16 teams will take part in the championship. The tournament's starting prize pool is $1,600,000.
As CyberScore reported earlier, Nix criticized the organization of The International 2024.
