History
SG esports is a Brazilian esports organization founded in 2016. The club became one of the pioneers of professional Dota 2 in South America and the first Brazilian team to compete in a Valve Major tournament.
2016–2019
In November 2016, the organization signed the Kingao+4 roster, which included Adriano 4dr Machado, Mateus Kingrd Nascimento, Felipe c4t Camargo, Willian hFn Medeiros, and Otávio Tavo Gabriel.
In its very first season, the team won the South American qualifier for The Kiev Major 2017, becoming the first Brazilian team in history to qualify for a Valve Major tournament.
That same year, SG esports won the qualifiers for StarLadder i-League Invitational #3, Perfect World Masters, and ESL One Genting 2018, allowing them to compete in several top-tier tournaments at once.
In the years that followed, the organization changed its roster multiple times. At various times, the team featured Leonardo 4nalog Oliveira, Lucas Nauges Soares, Ricardo Thiolicor Cordeiro, Bruno FLee Alves, and other players from the South American scene.
By mid-2019, the roster had been disbanded, and shortly thereafter, the organization temporarily suspended operations.
2021–2022
In late 2020, SG esports returned to the professional scene by signing the Team Brasil roster. It once again included hFn, Kingrd, Tavo, as well as Matthew KJ Filemon and Thiolicor.
In 2021, the team performed successfully in the regional DPC, finishing third in the first season of DPC SA 2021. The team then won the South American qualifier for The International 2021, securing SG esports’ first appearance at the season’s main tournament in four years. At the championship, the team finished in 17th–18th place.
After The International 2021, their results began to decline. Despite winning the second division of DPC SA 2021/22 Tour 2, the team was unable to reclaim its status as one of the region’s leaders.
In November 2022, the organization decided to cease operations and disbanded the roster, bringing an end to the history of one of South America’s most famous clubs.
