Quinn spoke about the problems of Gaimin Gladiators after Watson's transfer
Gaimin Gladiators midlaner Quinn Quinn Callahan spoke about the atmosphere within the team after adding Alimzhan Watson Islambekov and explained why the roster has been underperforming in competitions. Callahan shared his thoughts in a podcast with Austin Capitalist Walsh, which came out on the latter's official YouTube channel.
The TI13 finalist acknowledged that GG is currently going through a rough. Despite criticism of Watson from the community, he emphasized that Alimzhan is not the source of the team's struggles on the contrary.
Honestly, we're in terrible form right now, but that's not Watson's fault. We took a break after TI13 and started the season in poor form. The team has performed horribly in the first tournaments because everyone except Watson was playing bad. We're literally ruining his games. People say, 'You replaced dyrachyo with Watson, who can't play.' But that is not true. It's everybody else's fault
In addition, Quinn noted the failure of the team to qualify for one of the key tournaments of the season despite constant practice. As far as he is concerned, this always has been the story throughout his Dota 2 career, and going by the way things are right now, this reminds him of last season.
We don't qualify for ESL One Bangkok 2024, still dropping maps, and overall playing like trash. It's just awful. We scrim day in and day out, play terribly, fix mistakes here and there. It's pretty much the story of Dota for me most of my career, so I feel like I've fallen back into this abyss. We had a similar situation last year: we didn’t play well for most of the season, but somehow, things worked out in the end
Callahan also expressed his thoughts on the Gaimin Gladiators performance at The International 2024. As he said, their residing in the top at TI was more of an accident than a product of good gameplay. He wrote that the team members had been aware of all the problems for a long time and were working on how to omit them even before Watson's arrival.
The discussion also touched on how Alimzhan had been selected to become the new carry of the team. According to Quinn, Watson eventually just became the most suitable candidate for his personal and in-game qualities. Even though Watson is a rather introverted person, the team is well aware that he needs time to get used to his new team, and it is no different from any other player.
Watson plays incredibly well. We thought over different options, we talked to candidates and came to the conclusion that Watson is a bright and calm guy who could fit into the team. He is not talkative and was a bit closed up initially, but with time, he started opening up to us. I don't think that with his arrival our style in general will change much. Rather, each player will have to adapt individually, for example, myself or our supports
Let us remind you that on October 3rd, Gaimin Gladiators moved Dyrachyo to the inactive roster, after which Watson joined the team. On October 11, the organization released a video in which they officially parted ways with the Russian esports player, despite the team's successful results.
Earlier, CyberScore.live reported that Seleri talked about new Gaimin Gladiators carry.
