Nevermore
Nevermore is the name of Shadow Fiend in Dota 2. In the classic version of the game, the hero’s full name was Nevermore the Shadow Fiend, and “Nevermore” became the go-to name for many players. It is also a reference to Edgar Allan Poe’s poem “The Raven”, where the raven was called Nevermore — after the word it kept repeating.
Even after the release of Dota 2, where the name was shortened to Shadow Fiend, the old nickname persisted. It holds nostalgic value for veteran players and is still frequently heard in casual conversations, streams, and public games. This is one of the rare cases where an unofficial hero name has stood the test of time.
