History

Shopify Rebellion is a Canadian multi-gaming organization that began pursuing professional Dota 2 gameplay at the end of 2022. Club is also known for its accomplishments in disciplines such as Halo, StarCraft 2, VALORANT, and Rocket League. They also have an official Twitch channel where viewers can watch exclusive interviews with professional players.

In late 2022, Shopify Rebellion took an interest in the professional Dota 2 scene. Shortly after, they announced a roster featuring experienced ex-Evil Geniuses players such as Andreas 'Cr1t-' Franck Nielsen, Artour 'Arteezy' Babaev, Tal 'Fly' Isaac, Abed 'Abed' Azel Yusop, along with coach Kanishka 'BuLba' Sosale. Jonas 'SabeRLighT-' Volek also joined the roster as an offlaner. The emergence of Shopify Rebellion gave hope to fans of the pro scene in North America, where Dota 2 was losing its popularity.

They made their debut at the DPC NA 2023 Tour 1: Division I tournament, where they played against teams such as TSM, Nouns, B8, and others. In their first match, they easily defeated Thiuth Gaming with a score of 2-0.

After The International 2023, Shopify Rebellion has had 3 lineup changes. Abed, Cr1t and Fly left the team. Yopaj-, Thiolicor and Kitrak became newcomers.

Already next year, SR participated in DreamLeague Season 22, where they placed 7th, being eliminated in the group stage. Next was ESL One Birmingham 2024, where the team also failed to show good results, not managing to leave the group. After this, Thiolicor left the team, and Skem took his place. The changes did not help the team, and at the next tournament, PGL Wallachia Season 1, Shopify Rebellion took 9-11th place, and at DreamLeague Season 23 the team again failed to advance from the group stage. In June, the qualifiers for Riyadh Masters 2024 and The International started, but the team failed to reach the main event of either tournament, losing the decisive matches in the qualification finals, but they received a direct invite to Elite League Season 2, where they also failed to show strong results and placed 7th.

Shortly before Elite League Season 2, the team’s long-standing captain Artour Arteezy Babaev went inactive, and at the tournament, he was replaced by Christian Anthony Pakazs Savina Casanova. After The International 2024, the pro scene entered the reshuffle season. Shopify Rebellion added Enzo Timado Giannoli, Mark mangekyou Kharamov, Kirill Hellscream Lagutik, and Rolen Andre Skem Gabriel Ong. The renewed roaster placed 8th at ESL One Bangkok 2024.

In February 2025, the team competed at FISSURE PLAYGROUND, where they failed to get out of the group stage and finished in 15th place. Later Pakazs joined SR at DreamLeague Season 25. There the roster took 9th place. At ESL One Raleigh 2025, the team failed to advance beyond the group stage, as well as at PGL Wallachia Season 4.

  • May 10, 2025 — Davai Lama joined Shopify Rebellion.

On May 17, the team secured a slot in the main tournament of FISSURE Universe: Episode 5 by defeating Virtus.pro in the upper bracket final of the FISSURE Universe: Episode 5 Play-In playoffs. At DreamLeague Season 26, the team finished in 9th place.

On June 7, 2025, the team qualified for Riyadh Masters 2025 through the closed qualifier. Later SR placed 5th-6th on FISSURE Universe: Episode 5.

In July 2025, Shopify Rebellion ended their participation in Riyadh Masters 2025, finishing in 15th place and earning $50,000 in prize money.

On July 30, 2025, the organization shut down its Dota 2 division and released the roster.
