History
Neon Esports is a professional team from Southeast Asia, headquartered in the Philippines. The tag is not well known outside the region, as none of its roster has managed to qualify for a major tournament at the Minor or Major level, but the team has been very successful at the dash-2-3 level of the local scene. Almost all players who have ever been a part of Neon Esports have been Filipino, and the organization has also hosted such relatively well-known players as Sam_H and Skemberlu for a while.
The first Neon Esports roster appeared in the summer of 2017, but as is often the case, there were no special achievements. The first significant result appeared only towards the end of the year: Nando, LJSL, Yaha, DEX and SUGO managed to take 2nd place at ZOTAC Cup Premier: DOTA2 SEA and earn $3k in prize money. The next big success had to wait for exactly one year - the 1st place at the Philippine qualifications of Asia Pacific Predator League 2019 and the "silver" of DreamHack Mumbai Invitational 2018 added more than $12 thousand to the team's piggy bank.
The year 2019 was quite productive for Neon Esports: victories at Asia Pro League Season 2, Asian DOTA2 Gold Occupation Invitational Competition S2, Asia DOTA2 Master League Season 1, God League and other small tournaments confirmed the team as the favorites of the region's DOTA2 scene. On the other hand, there were failures at all qualifications of major tournaments: some were high-profile, others were frustrating, as they were 1 or 2 steps away from winning.
In September 2019, the team signed a new squad, which included Yopaj, PlayHard, Marc, Rappy and Rr. The results didn't differ much from the previous ones: solid wins at small tournaments, failures at big tournaments. The most recent players to join the team so far have been JG and Skemberlu. They brought Neon Esports a real miracle: the team managed to qualify for ESL One Thailand 2020: Asia through open and closed qualifications.
In 2021, the roster participated in the regional DPC League and also took first place at the Huya Winter Invitational. The following year, Neon Esports tried to qualify for The International 2022, but finished only sixth and did not qualify for the main stage of the tournament. In addition, the team participated in various Tier-2 and Tier-3 tournaments.
In 2023, the team took second place at DPC SEA 2023 Tour 3: Division II, and a little later again tried their hand at qualifying for The International 2023, where they took seventh place. In the same year the guys went to the qualifiers for ESL One Kuala Lumpur, but even here they failed.
In 2024 the team participated in the qualifiers for BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024, DreamLeague Season 22, ESL One Birmingham, Elite League 2024, DreamLeague Season 23 and PGL Wallachia Season 1. And in June she went to qualify for the upcoming Riyadh Masters 2024, but could not get further than the open stage.
On June 28, 2024, Neon Esports announced their departure from the Dota 2 discipline and the closure of the organization.
