Dota 2 will become the official discipline at Asian Games 2022

Dota 2 has been included in the list of esports that will be presented at the Asian Games 2022. The competition will be held in Hangzhou, China, from 10 to 25 September. The full list of esports disciplines in which medals will be awarded is as follows:

  • FIFA Online 4
  • Street Fighter V
  • Arena of Valor
  • Dream of the Three Kingdoms 2
  • Mobile Legends: Bang Bang
  • League of Legends: Wild Rift
  • CrossFire
  • Garena Free Fire
  • Call of Duty Mobile
  • Sausage Man
  • Genshin Impact
  • Tong’s Go

The OCA Director General, Hussein Al Musallam, said that this innovation should bring additional entertainment to the competition.

«We hope that this news will give all participating teams enough time to prepare for the qualifications. I believe that we have took everything necessary into account to ensure a high level of competition that promises to be spectacular and interesting for enthusiasts and amateurs», Al-Musallam said in his statement.

Esports was added to the Asian Games sports program at the OCA General Assembly in Muscat, Oman, on December 16, 2020. At first, it was an exhibition sport at the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia, meaning medals did not count towards the official medal count.
