Bafik criticizes current Dota Pro Circuit system

Maincast studio commentator Aleksey ‘Bafik‘ Bafadarov said that he is unhappy with the current Dota Pro Circuit system.

In his opinion, its main flaw is tiebreakers, which prevent organizations from properly planning bootcamps.

“We spent a full season to determine the position of the teams in Western Europe, and now it all comes down to incomprehensible round robin bo1 matches. It’s annoying, it’s the complete opposite of what the usual DPC format is.

In Eastern Europe there was a 5th-6th place tiebreaker between two teams with the same record. But they have already played each other during the season, and we know the result. It was also planned to play a replay for 7th-8th place. Maybe at least once there will be normal regulations in Dota 2?» Bafik explained his disappointment.

He noted that it is unacceptable to have a system that allows endless draws. The DPC does not have a unified regulation, and the rules are set by the tournament operators. This means that at some point, a precedent may occur when the organizers will be forced to come up with rules in a rush. According to Alexei, a similar situation already happened about two years ago in China. Then the administration was forced to determine the winners with the parameter of the average duration of the maps.

«I used these regions as an example, not to badmouth tournament operators. Every region has this flaw. It’s just that time of the year when we talk about one set of rules for everyone, for every possible situation. It’s just another precedent,” added the commentator.

He proposed to find an analogue of the football rule of the «golden» goal (in case of a draw, the first goal becomes the winning one – Ed.) in Dota 2, which would replace the tiebreakers and could solve the problem.

«Remember the «golden» goal rule? Go read it if you don’t. Some people say that the penalty shootout is a football lottery. But they found their solution. It’s a medium-length game that looks unnatural for Dota 2, but can solve our problem. It can also spawn a bunch of cool push strategies,” said Bafik.

As CyberScore reported, the former coach of Virtus.pro fng spoke about the prospects of the BetBoom Team roster which is filled with Dota 2 stars.
