How to play on Meepo in Dota 2

6 min.

Meepo is a melee agility hero known for his high farming speed and snowball potential. He has a unique ability to create his own clones, allowing him to spread across the map and eliminate enemies. He is most commonly played as a midlaner, but sometimes he can also be seen as a carry.

When to pick Meepo:

Meepo is particularly effective against heroes who cannot escape his nets, such as Sniper, Drow Ranger, or Nature’s Prophet. He is also strong against heroes like Lion or Shadow Shaman since he can resist their disables and continue fighting with his clones.

However, Meepo is not always the best choice. He struggles against heroes with strong AOE abilities, such as Earthshaker, Sand King, or Tidehunter, who can quickly damage or disable all of his clones. Additionally, he requires a high level of micro-control, making him difficult to play for inexperienced players. If the enemy team picks heroes that counter Meepo, the game can become significantly harder, and you can check his counterpicks here.

Features of Meepo:

  • Divided We Stand allows Meepo to create clones, but all of them die if even one of them is killed.
  • Meepo is an excellent pusher and one of the most mobile heroes. However, he has very low damage at the start of the game, making it difficult to lane and trade HP effectively.
  • Poof is a powerful farming ability that allows all clones to teleport instantly to the targeted location.
  • Aghanim’s Scepter grants a new ability that increases his survivability.
  • Thanks to his innate ability, Geomancy, Meepo gains health regeneration near trees, increased movement speed while on land, and slows enemy with attacks while in water.

What to buy on Meepo:

  • Power Treads – Best choice for movement speed, strength, and agility.
  • Blink Dagger – Core item for initiation and mobility.
  • Aghanim’s Scepter – Increases survivability.
  • Diffusal Blade/Disperser – Slows enemies and boosts mobility.
  • Aghanim’s Shard – Adds the new Dig ability, increasing survivability.
  • Eye of Skadi – Reduces enemy regeneration and attack speed.
  • Scythe of Vyse – For controlling opponents.
  • Dragon Lance/Manta Style/Sange and Yasha – Situational items for boosting attributes and survivability.
  • Silver Edge/Nullifier/Bloodthorn – Situational items for weakening enemies.

How to play Meepo

Early game:

Focus on gaining experience and gold, as Meepo relies heavily on levels and items. Buy Wraith Band or Magic Stick for extra durability. Before getting your first clone, play cautiously, as Meepo is vulnerable alone. Use Poof to secure last hits. If the lane is difficult, you can level up Earthbind for control or escape.

Mid game:

Once you unlock your ultimate, start farming the map aggressively using your clones. Move between the jungle and lanes, utilizing Poof for quick farming. After buying Blink Dagger, start joining fights, targeting enemies that can be quickly eliminated. Pay close attention to positioning, as losing one clone will result in all Meepos dying.

Late game:

Meepo becomes an extremely dangerous hero, capable of killing enemy carries and supports in seconds. Continue playing aggressively, but always position yourself carefully. Use your abilities and items effectively to eliminate enemies as fast as possible. Don’t forget about Roshan, and help your team push lanes, as Meepo can destroy buildings very quickly.

Main gameplay principle

Meepo is a hero that requires a high level of micro-control but has immense potential in the right hands. His strength lies in efficiently using clones for farming, pushing, and fighting. The faster you get key items and gain an advantage, the harder it will be to stop you.
