History

Talon Esports is a well-known cyber sports organization based in Hong Kong. The club has made a name for itself by successfully competing in popular disciplines such as League of Legends and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six. In 2021, Talon unveiled its first Dota 2 roster for the 2021/2022 DPC season.

The club's initial roster included two Indonesian players Raflai Mikoto Fatur Rahman and Brizio Adi Hyde Putra Budiana, longtime players in the Southeast Asian pro scene, as well as regional legends Kim Gabbi Phillafuerte and Damien kpii Sau-jing Chok. The roster is captained by experienced Israeli cyber athlete Tal Fly Azik, who has previously represented big name tag teams such as Fnatic, Team Secret, OG and Evil Geniuses, but has no experience playing on rosters with players from Southeast Asia. Despite the big names in the lineup, the first round of the DPC season could not be called successful for Talon Esports. The team was only able to qualify for the second division of the region at the second attempt, and the team finished only 5th in the league itself, which did not suit both the players and the club.

After the unsuccessful performance Talon Esports decided to change the squad. Thus, the team left 2 cybersports players at once - the captain of the roster Fly and the player of the first position Gabbi. In place of the Israeli came a promising Support from Thailand Voravit Q Mekchai, and the Carry position was taken by a young professional Nyengnara 23savage Tiramahanon, also born in Thailand. The team also got a coach in the person of an experienced cyber athlete from South Korea Lee Forev Sang Don. The roster, completely composed of players from the region, showed much more successful results. At DPC SEA 2021/22 Tour 2: Division II, Talon Esports finished in second place, securing a slot in the Southeast Asia First Division. Once in the first division, the team continued to show strong play, and by the middle of the summer tour the team was ranked number one at DPC SEA 2021/2022 Tour 3: Division I, having every chance to qualify for the last major of the DPC season, which they did. At PGL Arlington Major 2022, the squad finished 13-14th, leaving the tournament without making it out of the group stage. At ESL One Malaysia 2022, history repeated itself as the team finished 9th-10th and stayed in the group stage.

After the failures Talon changed the coach. The new coach was Andrei ALWAYSWANNAFLY Bondarenko, who used to play for Natus Vincere. With the new coach the team managed to qualify for The International 2022, playing all the matches in the top playoffs and showing a great game. But at the tournament itself the roster failed again: 17th-18th place and again went down after the group stage.

After the TI in the roster was reshuffled: kpii and Hyde left, they were replaced by Anuja Jabz Jirawong and Chan Oli Jong Kin. Also introduced a new coach, he was Lee SunBhie Jeon Jae. The renewed lineup began to show some pretty good results: 1st place at BTS Pro Series Season 14: Southeast Asia3rd at Lima Major 2023 and 3rd at Riyadh Masters 2023. And at The International 2023 the team managed not only to pass the group stage, but also to pass in the playoffs in the top net. At the end of the tournament, Talon finished 9-12th and dropped out after losing to BetBoom Team.

In November 2023, the team disbanded and soon introduced a new roster. The roster consisted of Eljon Kanonigo Akashi Andales, Chun Ws Wei Shen, Tri Jhocam Kunkoro, Peng ponyo Shi Huan and Yuri Yowe Pakana as stand-in.

  • December 14, 2023 - Talon Esports changes mid player, with ChYuaN replacing Yowe. In January 2024, pieliedie joined the team as a coach.

The renewed squad played poorly at the qualifiers for BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024, finishing in 4th place and top 5-6 at the qualifiers for DreamLeague Season 22.
